Our WorkAs the leading inter-governmental organization promoting since 1951 humane and orderly migration, IOM plays a key role to support the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through different areas of intervention that connect both humanitarian assistance and sustainable development. Across Bosnia and Herzegovina (BH), IOM aims to prevent irregular migration, stop the trafficking of human beings, contribute to national development, and assist the BH Government to manage migration activities.

Pioneer of Women’s Education and Humanitarianism in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Miss Adelina Paulina Irby, an Englishwoman born in 1883, journeyed through Europe with a keen interest in Slavic nations. In 1866, she founded the second women’s school in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which also served as a haven for orphaned children. Recognized for her humanitarian efforts, Miss Irby’s school provided education, care, and shelter. She devoted her life to alleviating the suffering of the Bosnian people, inspired by their resilience and kindness.
Pionirka ženskog obrazovanja i humanitarizma u Bosni i Hercegovini
Gospođa Adelina Paulina Irbi, Engleskinja rođena 1883. godine, putovala je Evropom, a jako se zanimala sa slovenske narode. Godine 1866. godine otvorila je drugu žensku školu u Bosni i Hercegovini, koja je također imala ulogu u otvaranju utočišta za djecu bez roditelja. Uvažavana zbog svog humanitarnog rada, škola gospođe Irbi je osiguravala obrazovanje, brigu i utočište. Život je posvetila ublažavanju patnje bosanskog naroda, a inspiraciju za to je nalazila u njegovoj otpornosti i ljubaznosti.
