The European Union donates personal protective equipment against COVID-19 to the Border Police and Service for Foreigner’s Affairs
Sarajevo, 12 August 2020 – the Border Police and Service for Foreigners’ Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina received a first lot of over 13,200 pieces of personal protective equipment against COVID-19. The equipment will allow officers to continue performing their duties in a safe manner during the novel Coronavirus pandemic. These donations have been made possible thanks to the contribution of the European Union, through the project “Addressing COVID-19 Challenges within the Migrant and Refugee Response in the Western Balkans”.
The donation includes gloves, masks, infrared contactless thermometers, disinfectant for surfaces and hand sanitizers.
The project “Addressing COVID-19 challenges within the Migrant and Refugee Response in the Western Balkans” responds to the challenges generated by the COVID-19 pandemic in border and migration management and aims to ensure that asylum and migration management systems and protection services remain operational in full safety. The project also aims to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 among migrants, asylum seekers and refugees in the. Among other things, the project addresses the shortage of protective equipment for border police officials and personnel working in reception facilities or providing services to migrants, asylum seekers and refugees. The project runs for 15 months, until 2 July 2021 and is implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
