Brčko District BiH: Summer Police School – 2022

The Brčko District Police, in collaboration with regional and international partners, organized the eighth Police Summer School from August 23rd to 25th.

This year's School was attended by 53 young people, aged between 15 and 35, who, through a three-day programme, learned about the security sector and the role and contribution of young people in building a favorable secure environment.

The District Police organizes this summer school in cooperation with the Government of the Brčko District of BiH, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the OSCE Office in Brčko and the District Red Cross.

"The Government of Brčko District supports this project, understanding that it is an activity that further changes the perception of the police itself in a political community such as the District, in the sense that the position and role of the police in the community is more correctly understood, especially its involvement in creating general security," said District Mayor Esed Kadrić.

In addition to providing logistical support, IOM's involvement in the Summer Police School preparation aims to support the development of a curriculum for the school that offers variety, involves young people in the programme's development, and promotes community partnerships and cooperation. Additionally, IOM hosted a session on social inclusion and youth activism.

Laura Lungarotti, IOM Bosnia and Herzegovina Chief of Mission, expressed her support for this innovative initiative: "This is the second Summer Police School for us, and this year we were also involved in the development and organization of the programme itself. We actively work with young people and want them to understand the key role of the police."

Since 2018, IOM has been working with the Government of the Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina within the project "Providing support to youth in local communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina", which is financially supported by the Government of the United Kingdom. By providing support for a multi-sectoral approach to building the resilience of the local community, IOM wants to strengthen the capacity of institutions and contribute to the creation of a more resilient society.
