Our WorkAs the leading inter-governmental organization promoting since 1951 humane and orderly migration, IOM plays a key role to support the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through different areas of intervention that connect both humanitarian assistance and sustainable development. Across Bosnia and Herzegovina (BH), IOM aims to prevent irregular migration, stop the trafficking of human beings, contribute to national development, and assist the BH Government to manage migration activities.

The Academic Journey and Cultural Contributions of Smail Balić
Smail Balić, born in 1920 in Mostar, embarked on an academic journey from Islamic theology in Sarajevo to a doctorate in Vienna in 1945. His expertise in Oriental studies led him to teach in Vienna and Kuwait. From 1963 to 1984, he served as a scientific librarian and head of oriental languages at the Austrian National Library. Balić’s dedication to cultural scholarship earned him Austria’s Order of Science and Art, 1st class, in 1995.
Akademsko putovanje i kulturni doprinosi Smaila Balića
Smail Balić, rođen 1920. godine u Mostaru, počeo je svoj akademski put na Fakultetu islamskih nauka u Sarajevu i doktorirao je 1945. godine u Beču. Njegova stručnost u oblasti orijentalnih studija navela ga je na put podučavanja u Beču i Kuvajtu. Bio je naučni bibliotekar i rukovoditelj orijentalnih jezika u Austrijskoj nacionalnoj biblioteci u periodu od 1963. godine do 1984. godine Balićeva posvećenost izučavanju kulture omogućila mu je da 1945. godine dobije Austrijski orden za nauku i kulturu prvog reda.
