SARAJEVO, March 16 (ONASA)
Deputy Chief of Mission of Japan to BiH Kazumasa Miyzaki will attend today the handover of the reconstruction project of primary school "April 19th" Derventa, the Embassy of Japan in BiH announced
The handover will be held at the school premises, at 11.00 hours, in the presence of Mayor of Derventa Milorad Simić and Director of the School Elvira Miljić.
Miyzaki will attend at 14.00 hours the second ceremony at the Center for Children and Youth with Disabilities "Budućnost" in Derventa, which was reconstructed by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) with the financial support of the Government of Japan.
The Primary School "April 19th" in Derventa was dealing with problems of dilapidated inner and outer joinery at the school building as well as sanitary facilities that were in very poor condition.
Outdated joinery greatly threatened the safety of pupils and teaching staff, and room heating was further complicated due to heat loss.
In addition, the teaching process conditions were further complicated after the school suffered damage during the floods of 2010. The Government of Japan allocated a grant in the amount of 174.566 BAM to the Primary school "April 19th" for the replacement of windows and doors of the school building, the reconstruction of sanitary facilities and the purchase of school furniture.
The implementation of this project created better conditions for the teaching process for 736 students who attend this school facility, as well as for 81 teachers and staff.
The second project is related to the reconstruction of the Centre for Children and Youth with Disabilities "Budućnost" in Derventa.
The Government of Japan financed the reconstruction of the Centre within a larger project which is implemented in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission in BiH. In response to the long-term needs after the devastating floods in May 2014, the Government of Japan made a decision to invest 1.2 million BAM in the project of rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Centres for Children with Disabilities that were damaged in floods in May 2014 in Derventa, Orašje, Bijeljina, Srbac and Prijedor. Thanks to the reconstruction works that included the replacing of the roof, reconstruction of the interior premises, restoration of the facade, and the rehabilitation of sewerage network, the Centre for Children and Youth with Disabilities "Budućnost" in Derventa will be reopened to provide professional care for children and youth with disabilities, and to offer educational and recreational activities that can contribute to the improvement of their daily lives.
About 55 residents of the center and 155 families will directly benefit from this project.
This year the Government of Japan and BiH are marking 20 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations. The Embassy of Japan in BiH wants these two projects to symbolize friendship that the people of Japan and BiH have been fostering for the last 20 years. (end)
