PRESS RELEASE

Sarajevo, 7th of May 2015

In Kupres, on 6th May 2015, the International Organization for Migration, in cooperation with its partner implementer,  FBiH Red Cross, on the project “Applying the Human Security Concept  to Stabilize Communities in Canton 10”, organized a handover of vehicles and medical equipment to the newly formed mobile team of the Red Cross in Kupres. Three mobile teams consisting of one nurse, one caretaker and a driver/handyman have already been established in Drvar, Glamoć and Bosansko Grahovo.

The main task of the FBiH Red Cross mobile teams, besides delivering humanitarian help, food and hygiene packages,  is to provide primary medical protection and care to elderly and sick persons in social need. Since local communities and health centers are not capable of transporting potential patients to hospitals that are far away, and since there is a lack of public transport, the mobile teams often perform this type of service. In addition to these services, the driver/handyman performs minor repairs in and around beneficiarys’ houses, with the aim of improving the living conditions of the old and the sick in the area.

Also, a very significant activity carried out by the Red Cross mobile teams is the filling out questionnaires with families whom they visit in the field, and afterwards updating the database with comprehensive information regarding the socio-economic and other needs of people living in the above mentioned municipalities. Once everything is completed, the database will be handed over to Social Care Centers in the municipalities in which the mobile teams have been active.

Ensuring conditions for a better life, and the improvement of social services and other forms of social support to vulnerable groups are some of the objectives of the "Application of the concept of human security in order to stabilize communities in Canton 10" project which is jointly conducted by IOM, UNDP, UNHCR and UNICEF in partnership with the Government of Canton 10, the municipal authorities and Civil Society Organizations. The project is funded by the United Nations Fund for Human Security.

The realization of this Project will contribute to strengthening the capacity of cantonal and municipal governments; strengthening NGOs to provide social services to reduce personal and social insecurity; strengthening capacities within the education system; strengthening cantonal and municipal authorities to prevent discrimination and violence; improving the readiness of critical areas in Canton 10 to respond to risks and threats to community security, and securing equal access to employment opportunities and economic sustainability in priority areas.

SAOPĆENJE ZA MEDIJE

Sarajevo, 07. maj 2015.

Osnovni zadaci timova, osim dostave humanitarne pomoći, hrane i higijenskih paketa, su pružanje primarne medicinske zaštite starim i bolesnim licima, I osobama u socijalnoj potrebi.
